Halloween is held on October 31st. People make Jack O' Lanterns out of pumpkins. Usually they're displayed on doorsteps or in front windows. Sometimes children take them trick or treating. Jack O' Lantern was a character in Irish folklore. When Jack died, he was not allowed into heaven or hell, and was forced to walk the earth with a lantern. The lantern was carved from a turnip. After he became associated with Halloween, the turnip was replaced by the pumpkin, as it is easier to carve.
