I
believe that learning about the past is very important
to help us understand the present and make good decisions
for the future. The best example of this is in world
politics. Problems that exist between countries often
have roots that go back several centuries. To fully
understand why two countries are at war, for example,
we must learn about their past. In addition we may
be able to learn lessons from the past to prevent those
problems from taking place in the future. Regarding
terrorism, for example, America could in theory look
at the different past strategies which have been both
effective and ineffective in Europe, to help decide
how to fight it in the future.
