I
believe that, in some respects this change has been
for the better, but that in some ways it has been disastrous.
I say this with particular reference to Britain, which
has become very much a ready-made society. Ready-made
meals, which can be prepared by simply reheating them
in the microwave for 3 or 4 minutes, have transformed
the way some people in Britain eat. At the top end
of the market, you have ready-made Indian and Thai
curries, Italian pasta and pizzas, Chinese food and
a whole host of other tasty and often healthy meals.
These have actually improved the way people with top,
high-level jobs who often work late and have no time
to cook, look after themselves. However at the bottom
end of the market, ready-made meals tend to be unhealthy
and greasy food. As these
have become easier and easier to prepare, parents have
begun to give up on fresh food altogether, with the
result that Britain is now facing what some call an
obesity crisis. (170 words)
