落ち着いている/be relaxed
口を開くチャンス/a chance to open one's mouth
ためらう/hesitate to〜
If we try
to spend time with one or two close friends, we can be more relaxed and frank
with them because they are more likely to be similar to us. We will have more
opportunities to talk and we won't hesitate to change the schedule. On the other
hand, being with many friends is fun in itself. It makes us feel happy to be
in cheerful atmosphere. When we spend time with a large number of friends, however,
we have less of a chance to talk and have to spend more time as listeners. It
might also be more difficult for us to be frank. Haven't you had experiences
in which you nod to stories that you don't really agree with? As far as I'm concerned,
I prefer to spend time with one or two close friends because I can be myself.
