Physical
exercise should be required...because students who exercise
daily have more energy. This energy will help them
stay awake in class more easily. While students may
not want to exercise every day, it has been proven
that regular exercise increases a person's energy level
all day long. Even though exercise may seem to take
a lot of energy, in the long run it gives a person
a lot more energy than it takes away. It is also good
for concentration. Students are more awake after exercise
than before it, because it gets the blood flowing to
the body and brain. Regular exercise also improves
a person's health. If students are healthier they will
miss less school. Missing less school would help their
overall academic performance as well. For these reasons
and many others physical exercise should be a required
part of school life.
Only academic studies should be required...of the students.
Students who wish to participate in sports should do
so outside of school time. Physical exercise is good
for a person's health, but does nothing to improve a
student's overall test scores. Requiring sports participation
in school can even be harmful to the students. Sports
can be dangerous, and many students get hurt while playing
them. Also, some students are not good at sports. Therefore,
having to play sports only causes them embarrassment.
This embarrassment can distract them from their studies
as they spend time worrying about their poor performance
on the field. For these reasons I think sports should
not be a required part of school life.
