Today,
the ability to read and write is much more important
than it was in the past. In the past, very little text
was printed and a person could make their living as
a farmer or industrial worker without having the need
to read or write. However, in the present, almost everyone
on the planet is surrounded by printed words. Street
signs, food labels, newspapers and train schedules
all require the ability to read. Responding to letters
and completing government forms require the ability
to write. All of these tasks are a part of everyone's
lives.(96 words)
